Committees

Dermatology

Riverside Free Clinic’s Dermatology Committee is dedicated to educating the community about the importance of sun safety and skin cancer prevention. Recognizing that prevention is more effective than treatment, the committee provides critical information on the myths and facts surrounding sun exposure during clinics to underserved communities of the Inland Empire. Patients receive personalized guidance and samples tailored to their skin type, ensuring they have access to appropriate protective products.

Fundraising

The Fundraising Committee is proud to serve our local community by expanding the financial capacity of our clinic to continue offering our essential services, treatment, and care to our patients throughout the Inland Empire. During the clinic, our committee assists the Intake Committee in facilitating and supporting patient intake and flow of patient charts to either counseling, triage, medical students, or pharmacy.

Our committee works on creating projects such as our Annual Summer Fundraiser as well as securing donations from our community partners, members, and corporations to allocate financial resources and support to making our mission of universal care possible in Inland Southern California. In addition to previously mentioned projects, the Fundraising Committee also is involved in creating marketing advertisements for our clinic to help expand our mission to include more patients in our vicinity and planning our annual RFC banquet event in the spring.

Intake

The Intake Committee is the first point of contact for patients at our clinic, serving as both a welcoming presence and a vital part of ensuring smooth operations. Our role is to make every patient feel respected and cared for, especially those who may have been turned away or overlooked by traditional healthcare systems.

Our responsibilities consist of checking patients into clinical services, maintaining patient files, and overseeing the overall flow of the clinic to keep things running efficiently. Beyond these responsibilities, when checking in patients, we listen to their comments and concerns and direct them to the appropriate committee. This allows us to work together with every volunteer and improve the care each patient receives.

Labs

The Labs Committee works to improve patient care and expand accessibility to diagnostic testing by providing free lab work in partnership with Quest Diagnostics. We work alongside physicians and medical students to conduct screenings such as blood panels, urinalysis, and pregnancy tests, while ensuring safe testing and patient comfort. We also create educational materials and resources to ease patient concerns regarding bloodwork and explain the purposes of the tests we provide.

Lung Health

The Lung Health Committee at Riverside Free Clinic supports patients on their journey to quit smoking by providing nicotine patches, gum, and smoking cessation using motivational interviewing. We distribute educational flyers on various lung health related topics such as smoking, COPD, asthma, and secondhand smoke. Our team is also expanding on promoting environmental lung health, including future projects such as air filtration through the Corsi-Rosenthal Foundation.

Medical Spanish

The MedSpa (Medical Spanish) Committee works to make healthcare more welcoming and accessible for Spanish-speaking patients at the Riverside Free Clinic. Volunteers interpret conversations with doctors, nurses, dentists, pharmacists, and other providers to ensure patients’ questions and concerns are fully understood. We also translate forms, instructions, and other materials, and assist with paperwork to make the process smoother. By working with every clinic committee, MedSpa helps patients feel heard, understood, and supported at every stage of their visit.

Needy Meds

The NeedyMeds committee provides resources to help reduce the cost of medication. Patients can receive up to 80% off various prescriptions, over the counter medications written as a prescription, and medical equipment through Prescription Assistance Programs and Drug Discount Cards. In addition, we distribute wellness kits aiming to improve our community’s health. We are here to educate patients seeking affordable medication–regardless of insurance status–and positively impact their life and health.

To apply for the Prescription Assistance Programs(PAP) please bring the following items with you to our clinic:

  1. Proof of Income (may include your most recent federal tax return, SSI income yearly benefits statement, or a recent pay stub)
  2. Social Security Number or permanent resident ID

Nutrition

The Nutrition Committee is dedicated to providing healthy eating and lifestyle education as well as food resources to address food insecurities through individualized patient education.

Our nutrition workshops include cooking demonstrations to educate patients about a variety of diets including heart healthy, diabetes friendly, high fiber, and vegan recipes to break the stigma that it must be expensive and bland. Pharmacy

The Pharmacy Committee is dedicated to improving the health of our community by ensuring access to quality medications and providing personalized one-on-one consultations. At each clinic, our team of licensed pharmacists, pharmacy students, and undergraduate volunteers works closely together to prepare accurate prescriptions and answer patient questions with care. Our mission is to deliver safe, efficient, and compassionate services that strengthen the well-being of every patient we serve.

Research

The Research Committee conducts clinical studies that clarify RFC’s patient demographics and needs, strengthen interdisciplinary care, and cultivate an inclusive learning environment for volunteers. Our goals are to design innovative, scalable projects; integrate patient feedback to continuously improve services; and collaborate closely with patients, through surveys, interviews, and outreach, to identify challenges and share actionable community health information.

Social Services

The Social Services Committee at Riverside Free Clinic is dedicated to bridging the gap between healthcare and the essential resources patients need beyond the clinic’s services. Our committee connects patients with community organizations and programs that provide support in areas such as food security, shelter, utility bill assistance, optometry, insurance, transportation, and more. We actively collaborate with partners, including DPSS, RUHS, Planned Parenthood, and HIV testing services to strengthen the network of support available to our patients. In addition to resource referrals, we organize community initiatives to address both health and social conditions in our community.
